Jim Kadtke, Ph.D.

James (Jim) Kadtke received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Brown University in 1987, which included two years as a graduate fellow at Los Alamos National Lab followed by over ten years as a research faculty member at the University of California at San Diego.
From 1999 to 2001 he was a AAAS Fellow at the Rand Science and Technology Policy Institute, supporting the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy followed by year on the Science Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Jim served over three years on the staff of Senator John Warner of Virginia, where he handled technology, defense, and homeland security issues, and as a staff designee on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Between 2006 and 2010 he was the Executive Director of the Accelerating Innovation Foundation, a research fellow at the National Defense University and George Mason University, and a consultant to the government on defense and technology policy.
From 2010 to 2012, he was the Industry and State Liaison at the National Nanotechnology Coordinating Office, which supports the National Science and Technology Council under the White House.
From 2012 to 2019 he was a Special Advisor on Converging Technologies at the Center for Technology and National Security Policy, National Defense University, and a Lecturer in the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego.
He is currently an independent consultant on defense policy, emerging technologies, and business strategy, and helps technology companies and entrepreneurs commercialize their products and engage with new partners.
